Simple City Living, Failures as Confidence Builders and My Next Venture

Has the ‘worst thing’ ever happened to you? In the realm of non-life threatening life disappointments I know many of us often fear this ‘worst thing’: not getting the job, failing a course, setting a very public goal and missing it by a mile or even just an inch. Often the fear of the bad result prevents us from even trying.

Brooke from the Slow Your Home podcast called me up for a chat recently and it was so much fun. So much fun and also hit home for me that one of my greatest disappointments has had many silver linings for me in the years since. It was a great reminder right now as I a work on some new projects (one of which I share in the podcast!).

On the fun front I could have talked with Brooke for hours. We have a lot in common and it was nice to be able to speak so freely about the struggles and rewards of trying to live a bit smaller and simpler. This blog is my meeting place and outlet for that conversation but I rarely get to talk in person about the struggle/reward of this lifestyle. I’m hoping Brooke will be up in my neck of the woods at some point for an in-person chat. Have a listen to the podcast for a lot of ‘me too’s and ‘agreed’s from me as we talk about moving internationally, why I love over the top birthday parties (but don’t throw them myself), and more on failures as confidence builders.

  • Rachel, it was so awesome chatting with you! I’ve found myself thinking about our conversation a lot over the last couple of weeks and I know Ben really loved how honest you were in answering questions people are sometimes afraid to answer openly. Here’s hoping we can make it happen in person one day soon!
    xx
